Assessments That Meets WPATH Standards

Our gender affirming assessment adheres to the benchmarks set by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). This allows each client to receive individualised care. Our assessment also ensures each client is treated with respect as they navigate their journey.

What is Gender Incongruence?

Gender incongruence refers to someone whose gender differs from the one they were assigned at birth. It deals with people exploring their gender identity and finding their true selves. There are many different ways people find gender congruence. One of which is through the kind of assessment offered at Find Sanctuary.

What to Expect With Our Gender Affirming Assessment

The first part of our work together is about getting to know you and understanding your story. We will gently explore areas of your life that feel relevant, including your personal history, medical background, mental health experiences, and the people or systems that support you. This process allows us to collaborate on a care plan that is tailored to your unique needs and goals.

We recognise that building trust takes time, so this part of the process often unfolds over 3-6 sessions, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If together we identify that additional support from another professional, such as a psychiatrist, might be helpful, we will discuss this openly and make those connections with your consent and input.

It is important to know that the WPATH assessment is not about determining or defining your gender. Rather, it is designed to support and affirm your experience of your true gender. This process provides a foundation for you to make informed decisions about your care, with consideration of the factors outlined in the WPATH assessment. Our goal is to honour and empower your journey in a way that feels right for you.

At Find Sanctuary, all our WPATH assessments are grounded in respect, validation, and non-judgment. We are here to support you in making decisions that feel authentic and right for your gender-affirming journey. We understand that navigating gender transition can be complex and, at times, challenging. That’s why we are committed to holding a safe, compassionate space for you as we work together through the WPATH assessment. Our goal is to explore and honour the many factors that contribute to your unique journey, always centering your voice and experience.
