Tommy Lawton - Psychotherapist and Relationship Counsellor

Tommy is a relationship counsellor and psychotherapist who works with individuals and couples navigating challenges in connection, communication, trauma, and emotional wellbeing.

Tommy has completed a Master of Counselling and is a Level 2 member of the Australian Counsellors Association, with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). His work is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and focused on helping people understand themselves and their relationships in deeper and more meaningful ways.

Tommy has a particular interest in relationship therapy, supporting couples who feel stuck in repeating conflict patterns, emotional disconnection, or difficulties with intimacy and communication. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, he helps couples understand the emotional patterns underneath conflict so they can reconnect, rebuild trust, and feel safer with each other again.

Alongside relationship therapy, Tommy also works with individuals experiencing trauma, ADHD, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. He is trained in EMDR therapy, an evidence-based approach that helps the brain process difficult experiences that continue to affect the present.

Tommy’s approach to therapy is collaborative and compassionate. He works to create a space where clients feel safe to explore difficult emotions, understand their patterns, and move towards healthier relationships with themselves and others.

He works with teenagers, adults, and couples, and welcomes people from all backgrounds including those who are LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, or navigating complex trauma.

Alongside private practice, Tommy has worked with the Sexual Assault Support Service, supporting survivors of trauma to rebuild safety, identity, and connection.

Outside of therapy, Tommy enjoys baking and spending time with his golden retriever, River.
